JoDi
(Joan Hemskerk + Dirk Paesmans)

1999

As guests of the International Residency Program at C3, JODI (JOan Hemskerk and DIrk Paesmans) developed CTRL-SPACE , a network game available from and playable on the Internet. The game is a deconstructed version of the well-known Quake, using its navigation system, but its graphic appearance is entirely different from the gothic style of the original. Not only are the weapons missing, but it is designed in the manner that virtual reality was imagined ten years ago. Structural elements are kept in radical black & white, which gives an op-art-like character to the whole environment and, at the same time, fools perspective.
