Java for SGI

This is a developer release of the Java2 Software Development Kit, v 1.2, for SGI Irix systems, a port of the Sun® Java2 SDK, v 1.2, shipped in two separate products:

java_eoe

the Java Execution Environment, containing the base runtime system and this documentation. See its release notes for known problems and bug fixes.

java_dev

the Java Development Environment, containing the Java compiler, debugger, and related tools. If you installed it (including its documentation), then see its release notes for known problems and bug fixes, demos, and other useful information. If you do not have it, you can get it from Silicon Surf if necessary.

This release is conformant with Sun's Java2 SDK, v 1.2, with the exception that some new features are missing, such as Drag and Drop, and the Input Method Framework.

This development kit is supported on IRIX 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and 6.5.

IMPORTANT

• Please start by seeing our suggestions for Correctly Installing Java and Related Software.
  
  
• Please see our suggestions for setting up your environment to run Java correctly. If you ever set Java-related environment variables, this is very important.
  
  
• This release supports:
  • both the MIPS o32 and n32 ABI's (the default is n32, whereas previous releases supported only o32)
  • the use of POSIX threads (this may require installation of some patches on your system)

  All ABI and thread package options must come at the beginning of the command line (before all other kinds of options) for all the Java tools. See MIPS ABI's and Threads.

• This release is not supported on IRIX 5.3. If you need a version of Java that is, you can obtain our 3.0.1 release from Silicon Surf.
  
  
• This release is not compatible with any version of Cosmocode.
