The CALL of the Information Age

This course will assist students in exploring ways in which aspects of communicative competence can be enhanced through employing the internet.More specifically, students will develop language learning tasks for their own classroom context incorporating the use of electronic mail and the World Wide Web.

In order to be able to design effective and meaningful language learning tasks,by the end of the course participnats will have

• discussed the readings in order to better understand the new medium;
• learnt how to access, select, evaluate relevant information on the internet related to the profession;
• gained further insight into how various language skills can be enhanced with the use of the new medium;

• take part in professional discussions in class via a listserv, and via newsgroups;
• keep a journal of the sites visited and of the reading;
• evaluate some of the Web-sites visited from the point of view of the principles of language learning;
• create their own language learning tasks incorporating the new medium;
• learn how to create a basic WEB-page;
• publish their materials and projects on the WEB.
