The Objectives
This project is a further step in our long-term strategy of empowering young people and including them in the solution-seeking process of social, racial and cultural disparities in Europe. By setting up this project, we hope to encourage the dialog between unequally represented groups. It shall further prepare and enable socially-disadvantaged people to express themselves through artistic means and to voice their identity. The program will be based on the study and learning of artistic techniques, that could be used as tools for drawing attention to the matters of minority youth and communicating opinions and ideas; but could also be used as instruments for addressing issues and policies that concern and affect the lives of young migrants and minority members in particular. Our outmost aim is to achieve tolerance and to help the awakening of a new European citizenship.
The Methods
Interactive and creative workshops shall be applied to assure the absolute involvement of the participants during the project. Each session will be directed by a professional animator/facilitator and the seminars will conclude with practical exercises. A check on participants' priorities/ expectations will allow us to adapt our workshops to meet the needs and aspirations.
In addition to the techniques, there will be room for debates on issues of identity and the advantages and difficulties in accepting difference and plurality. A visit to interesting parts of the city of Brussels is also planned. Daily evaluation sessions shall help to measure the progress and to prepare the final concluding session.
The Program Outline
The days will be split in two activity sessions: the morning workshop and the afternoon plenary, in which the introduced concepts and approaches will be discussed and put into perspective. The evenings are kept free and shall be structured by the participants themselves. The time shall be used to form small working groups and write evaluation reports, but as well as to inform about the organizations: distribute information material and documents, prepare networking possibilities and develop concepts and ideas for possible joint projects.
