We founded the Bokorliget Foundation in January 1995, but actually we had started to work on the goals of the Foundation long before through lot of learning and by creating communities. (We enclose the certificate of registration, the aims of the Foundation, and the introduction of the Board of Trustees. Appendices 1. and 2.).
We would like to build an ecological village, where we can lead a love-centred lifestyle. We have been trying to change the life of our society, realising that neither socialism, nor capitalism is the solution for people. We wish to build a model society based on Love, the members of which live in harmony with Nature, and this model society could be a sample for others and be followed in wider forums as well. On the one hand it can be an example, that being free of privileges, sharing of goods, the efficient decrease of consumption, healing and the protection of Nature and the surroundings, are the real solutions for human life. On the other hand we would like to live an organically co-operative life with the receiving village and the surrounding settlements, and even with a whole network of communities with the help of effective communication, which affects the life of the whole country.
After one and a half years’ preparing work, on 18 April, 1995, the Foundation bought a 25-hectare land at Szentantalfa (which we call Bokorliget), being separated from the village only by a stream. The price of the land (1.5 million HUF) was paid from donations of sympathising community members. (topographical lot no. 0162/7, no. 0162/8, no. 0162/9).
Because there is no infrastructure on the property, the creation of the necessary conditions for the building project is very difficult for us. An organic agricultural plan was made for the whole land by a horticulturist, Béla Baji, who is still helping us as an outside expert since then. This plan gives us the tasks for decades in advance, and it also indicates the exact place of the living area. On this living area we would like to build a community house, which can have numerous functions; there would be a community room, a dining-room, a kitchen, stores, library, music and sport rooms, small apartments for elderly couples or for singles, and some flats, being a temporary home for those who would like to settle there, for visitors, and people wanting rehabilitation. This community house would fit into the landscape harmoniously. We have already started to work on the plans, but presently we do not have the money to build it. According to our plans for the near future at Bokorliget, we would like to build a site office first, which could be used by the people camping or working there. Up to now, there are two prefabricated concrete garages on the land, used for storing things. We would like to install electricity and running water in this spring. We will try to use solar and wind energy as much as we can. We will clean the sewage in an ecological way.
The quality of the grass growing on Bokorliget is very good, and it was cut by the Magyar Tenger agricultural co-operation in 1995. In exchange for the hay we could use an old building in the centre of the village, which was the property of the agricultural co-operation till 15. December, 1995. The building used to be a school a long time ago, and its is 140 m², and the building plot is 240 m².
We have been using the school building since June 1995, and we had to repair it because of its bad condition. Because it served us very well during the summer time, and it was offered to us in a relatively low price, we decided to collect the money and buy it. The agricultural co-operation agreed on selling the building on hire-purchase. The total price was 2.5 million HUF plus 0.5 million HUF VAT (sales tax), which is 3 million HUF altogether that is 15000 HUF/m². We enclose the present plan and the pictures of the building (Appendix 3). According to the contract of sale which we also enclose (Appendix 4) in November and December of 1995 we bought the school building as a result of collaboration of friends. For we were able to carry out the purchase of the school building only from loans. We are looking for people who could support us to pay back the loans.
The land, the school building, the community house in building later, all the future workplaces, instruments and tools are the properties of the Bokorliget Foundation. Of course, we keep a precise record and figures about every monetary and non-monetary donations, material offers, and physical or mental work.
We already possess the experiences of one year, we got to know the people living there, we see their problems and because of this we would like to help them by creating workplaces, offers (clothes, shoes, etc.), education. The inhabitants of the village received a letter from us on 16 June, 1995, which we enclose as Appendix 5. We also enclose the supporting declaration of the mayor of Szentantalfa (Appendix 6). More than 150 people from our communities have spent shorter or longer time working there, having rest, making friends and visiting us since June of 1995. Our aim is to create a centre for rehabilitation through work, education, therapies and reception. (Appendix 7). We also began to work on the development of the data base, which helps the work concerning Bokorliget. The outlines of one section of this data base about homecare and nursing is enclosed as Appendix 8. We would like to do the nursing of elderly people living in from the very beginnings.
Our project is planned for a very long time. The building part of the project includes three main areas: the school building, the infrastructure and the site office of Bokorliget, and the community house in building later together with the houses of the families. We want to concentrate on the school building first. The Board of Trustees decided to concentrate all our financial and physical abilities on the maintenance of the school building, the installation of modern conveniences, and the reconstruction of the loft, for we do not want to wait with the beginning of the effective work, the education, the social work, helping families with many children, and the cultural and sport programmes, etc., .

Now we regard the building essential for us, because we can stay there when working on the land, the education can be started there through courses, we can help families with many children in spending their summer holidays, who cannot afford the expense of it elsewhere, and besides, these families will be acquainted with the lifestyle being planned on the property. It can also be a screening place for those who want to move there. Later, this building can give place for social and educational activities which was the original function of it, and it can be used for receiving guests, etc.
The condition of the building is very bad (e.g. the leading off of rainwater is not solved) because it has not been looked after properly for years. Fortunately, there are many things installed in the building; there is electricity, heating, running water, sewer and telephone. We would like to reconstruct the building according to the enclosed plans (Appendix 9), thus we can use it more efficiently. (Photos: Appendix 3)
The tasks to be done are the following:
pulling down of the plumbing, and rebuilding it by enlarging,
building new walls and stairs to the attic, building in new windows and doors,
putting in a kitchen, toilets and lavatories,
reconstructing the loft without converting it into an attic, temporarily only for preservation.

Last year we could already manage to form a good relationship with the inhabitants of the village and the surroundings. We organised meetings with the inhabitants and the leaders of the local churches, where through friendly discussions we informed them of our plans and they had the possibility to ask questions. We could employ some people during last year and a number of people indicated their wish to work there in the forthcoming. We would like to liven up the life of the village, by communicating primarily human values and a really sustainable lifestyle, and ensuring work (A) and entertainment (B).
A.: It is our basic need to create jobs for ourselves and also for the inhabitants of the surrounding villages:
1. Educational work in the framework of Bokorliget Education Centre. The subjects of our courses are not taught in schools though they are important in life; such as organic farming and building, rehabilitation courses for unemployed people, caretaking of children and old people, concern for poor and homeless people and refugees, languages, information sciences, folklore, etc. We would organise these courses for the local and neighbouring people (Szentantalfa, Tagyon, Zánka, Balatoncsicsó, Szentjakabfa, Óbudavár, Mencshely, Nagyvázsony, Szentbékálla, Mindszentkálla, Köveskál, Kékkút, Kõvágóörs, etc.), and for young people from the whole country, whom we can call through a network of communities.
2. Agriculture: workplaces, consultations, teaching organic farming, etc.
3. Social work: We have already started the organisation of homecare, cheap clothes market, help in office work, and when the community house of Bokorliget is ready we want to receive old people, young couples, and people in need to live in.
4. Handicraft: production of glove-puppets with the possibility to work at home. The whole process from the planning to the purchase of the puppets is already carried out by one of our families. This work can be moved to Szentantalfa at any time, when the human and building conditions are ready.
B.: All our programmes will be open to the local people too. We organise camps, where the things mentioned at the educational point are taught, and nature-lover lifestyle, folk culture (folk dance, folk music, etc.), ... We will also organise sport programmes and plays, conferences, children and youth meetings, where the people from other countries (Hungarians and non-Hungarians) are also welcome.

The investments for the school building:
The full price of the school: 3.000.000.-HUF

The Foundation paid from its own on 4 November, 1995 1.000.000.-HUF
The Foundation paid from friends’ loans on 14 November 500.000.-HUF
The Foundation paid from individual donations on 15 December 1.000.000.-HUF
The Foundation paid from loans on 15 December 500.000.-HUF
Total sum 3.000.000.-HUF

The Foundation is happy to receive any donations for the purpose of paying the loans back.

The whole plan of investments for the maintenance of the school building, the installation of modern conveniences, and converting the loft into an attic (see appendix 10) are done by András and Dóra Garay, our architects. In the first part of the project the reconstruction of the ground floor and the loft (without converting it into an attic, only for preservation) are planned in the investment plans, the second part would be the conversion of the loft into an attic. The prices include the VAT (sales tax). In Appendix 10, the budget shows what else we would need help for.

We plan the following financial recourses to our project of reconstruction:
Purchase of individual properties,
We submitted applications in Germany for the building of the Bokorliget Complex Rehabilitation Centre
We hope financial support from individual sponsors for the accomplishment of different goals,
Our Hutterian community friends indicated from the USA that they will help to find sponsors,
We continuously submit applications concerning the field of environmental protection and social work,
We have many individual supporters within our communities, who consider our aims important.

We have been able to meet the costs from offers from friends, and we have not got stuck in our work, travels, programmes, etc. In 1995, we received 1300$ from the Regional Environmental Centre definitely for running costs, which we hope to receive in 1996 as well.
We plan that through gradual development we will be able to raise the necessary money. Probably, the development will not be quick, unless our sponsors regard our efforts and goals as a great possibility. We think that if there is no sudden support, we will manage the running of the costs next year from individual offers, organising courses, publishing books, applications, organising camps and summer holidays. The donations received this year are beyond our expectations. Above all, we urge the reduction of consumption in eating, instruments, energy, etc.

The planned running costs (considering gradual development):

One full time worker’s wages 540.000.-HUF
Telephone, fax, postal expenses 150.000.-HUF
Travelling expenses 150.000.-HUF
Overhead expenses 180.000.-HUF
Office expenses 120.000.-HUF
Reception of guests 120.000.-HUF
Total sum 1.260.000.-HUF

In case of receiving extra financial support we could employ more full time experts, who would be able to accomplish the plans faster. We were thinking about this quicker developing case in Appendix 7.

Our dear Supporters,

We would like to inform you that during the one-year long existence of our Foundation we were able to create the following values, considering their present prices:

Land 7.000.000.-HUF
Two prefabricated concrete garages 450.000.-HUF
The value of the work 300.000.-HUF
Material values 250.000.-HUF
Purchase of the school building 3.000.000.-HUF
The value of all possessions of the Bokorliget Foundation 11.000.000.-HUF

We would like to mention that noone has received any money for the work completed up till now neither from the application money nor from the donations, everything was done in the name of love. The Board of Trustees worked the most active, sometimes making use of their grown-up children, all from families with many children. Besides them, other four or five families helped their work, and still there were others, who could be called in case of greater work. These people are potentially interested in changing their lifestyles. Up till now, we received 1300$ from the REC (Regional Environmental Centre) in February, 1995. We have had good contacts with Gerard Moorman at the Emmaus Netherland for the last two years. (Secreteriaat, Julianalaan 25, 3722 GD Bilthoven, Tel: 030 290780) Apart from the purchase of the land, our friends gave 2.2 million HUF to the Foundation, which is also theirs. One part of this sum was spent on the prefabricated concrete garages, the rest was paid for the school building.
We thank you for the opportunity of applying. We hope that you will consider our plans understandingly and that you could help us in our "not so good" financial situation. With your support you would help the work of many people, who want to do things for others. We also would like to help. Please, help us in this. Yours sincerely,
