Imre Szemethy
Born in 1945 in Budapest. Studied at the Prints Department of the College of Fine Art. Winner of the Munkácsy Prize in 1977, and the award of Distinguished Artist in 1986. In 1983 won the Grand Prize of the Graphical Biennial of Miskolc. Since 1973 member of the Széchenyi Literary and Art Academy. Between 1994 and 1997 taught at the College of Applied Arts. Mostly produces copper-plate engravings, drawings and video films and animated cartoons. Since 1972 had several exhibitions home and abroad. Together with the graphical artist Ferenc Banga, he launched a book series entitled Illustrated Prose Collection, with four volumes published so far, illustrating Hungarian short stories.
