Access allows you to restrict zone transfers to only certain IP addresses or address ranges. To use this feature enter in the IP addresses or address ranges in the window and check the box marked "Restrict zone transfers to:". You can re-open access to your zone transfers by deselecting the box.
To enter a range of IP addresses, use an asterisk in place of an octet, as in "192.168.1.*" or "172.16.*".
Restricting access to zone transfers is a marginally effective security measure designed to prevent outsiders from seeing the names and IP addresses of your hosts. All of this information is available through normal queries, such as requests for A records, service records such as NS and MX records, and PTR records. However, security through obscurity will keep out amateurs and the merely curious.
