The Preferences dialog can be opened from the Edit menu and is broken up into four distinct areas.
New Zone Windows
In the upper left are check-boxes labeled Show TTL Column and Show Comment Column. By de-selecting these check boxes you will automatically hide the corresponding column when a zone is opened. You can later change the Hide/Show settings for an individual Zone window by using the Zone menu.
Some users will wish to use TTL values different from their default value as set in the Default TTL field of their SOA record. Some will wish to comment their records, and others may prefer a simplified look to their zone windows.
At Startup
The Show Splash Screen button toggles whether or not the QuickDNS Manager splash screen appears during launch.
If the Auto-Connect to Servers button is enabled, QuickDNS Manager will attempt to connect to every server for which it has a password when it is launched. QuickDNS will provide the option to remember server passwords
any time you manually connect to a server. The default setting for Auto-Connect is off, and you cannot enable it untill after you have entered a master password.
Master Password
The Master Password button allows you to set the master password used to unlock QuickDNS Manager. Until the password is set QuickDNS Manager will not auto-connect. The master password must be at least 3 characters long.
Once set, the only way to unset the Master Password is to remove QuickDNS Manager's settings file while Manager itself is not running. Mac users must trash, or move, the file QuickDNS Preferences in the Preferences folder. Windows users must delete, or move, the file QDNS.cfg from the folder containing QuickDNS Manager.
Log Window
Initial Log Size:
Logs are kept by servers. When QuickDNS Manager connects to a server, and the log window is open, the Manager will download the most recent portions of the servers log. The amount downloaded will be equal to the preference value or the whole log file, whichecver is shorter.
Log Update Interval:
As long as the log window is open it will update the log from the server. Intervals between can be set between one and ten seconds. The default is every five seconds. To change the interval, select the appropriate setting.
Maximum Log Size:
Maximum log size determines how much of a servers log QuickDNS Manager retains at any one time. Once the maximum size is reached QuickDNS Manager will discard old log entries to make room for new ones. Log entries discarded by QuickDNS Manager are still retained in the log the server maintains.
Default Hostmaster Address:
This sets the default hostmaster address in the SOA records of all new zones.
