Welcome to....,

our settlement, which "in the medieval ages was first called Oroszlánykő (Lionstone) then later Pusztaoroszlánykő (Plainlionstone). According to our heritage, the settlement received its name from its main gates, which was guarded by two stone-cut lion statues." At least this is what the most popular County-history from 1938 by O'sváth claims.

But just like the medieval ages, these times are gone. For while the Osváth book tells us of 1557 inhabitants, some fifty years later, almost 21 thousand people are living here in 7800 flats, occupying a 76 km2 area under the ranges of Vértes, at about a quarter-hour distance from the Budapest-Wien speedway, the M1.

Most of this enourmos growth was due to the existence of mineable coal in the sorrounding area. Mining - and the industries based upon it - have fundamentally determined the shape of the city, giving jobs for those who decided to settle here. The 4th biggest city of Komárom-Esztergom County is now shifting from increasing population to developing the quality of living.

There are about 75-80 ventures operating in the city, and 56 institutions are managed by the local government. The electricity and water supply is covering 100% of the city, while the sewer system nears 100% coverage. The local cable television network reaches every citizen of the town, giving them acces to hungarian and international TV stations as well as to the local television. The development of the telephone network has been finished, and the construction of the gas-pipelines is under way now.

Headed by the Mayor of the city, the freely elected self-governing body of 18 representatives exercises the executive rights in the city. They manage the city's funds, they operate the institutions of the city, and they decide on the new ways of development. Which are these? To increase the attractivenes of the city, with the help of its good infrastructure and its advantageous location, and to inrease its central role in consent with the sorrounding settlements. To provide new job opportunities to replace the slowly decreasing mining industry, and to establish a certain level of urban comfort, that fits inhabitants as well as guests, and ensures a peaceful, creative lifestyle that meets the generally accepted european requirements.

The past compels: the rearing lion of the ancient crest is thoughtful, brave and persevering. To reach our goals, these are just the qualities we need to have today.
