History of O.H.I.I.
"IF WE WANT THE ERA IN WICH WE LIVE AND WICH WE CANNOT JUDGE, ONLY GUESS IT TO BE ONE OF PROGRESS RATHER THAN DECLINE, WE MUST CULTIVATE IN THE HUNGARIEN NATION (AND OURSELVES) THE THIRST FOR KNOWLEDGE, THE YEARNING FOR LIGHT"
(Count Kuno Klebelsberg; The danger of a crucial era, 1923)

Our Institute continues its activities in a renewed structural frame, with well-defined professonal task, coordinated operational order, new managing directors, and a staff that has initiative, and is commited to health care. Our aim is to manage within the open and embracing fields of haematology, immunology and transfusiology at a high professional standard and in a human way, the most up-to-date and the same time most general tasks of patient care, teaching and research. As it is very hard to imagine a widely acknowledged expert who is at home in all three fields, the managing and functioning of these three branches of medicine have become relatively independent both professionally and financionally, with a collective leadership to slove common problems. As a central joint unit, the Institute as an intellectual and technical capital servers the diagnostic needs of the three branches and makes possible a European standard, patient-orinted scientific research and education.

Our new image would like to reflect not an ostentatiousdisplay, but rather to symbolize a human helping hand, the wish for collaboration for development. Our Institute would like to greet with this publication all Institutions working in the area of health care, its leaders, colleagues and staff members.

Dr. Gyõzõ Petrányi
Director General
