alakítja a cselekvô. DETVAY Jenô személyes
története mindaddig magánügy volt, mÍg
a Bolt Fotógaléria létre nem jött. Amikor
a ´90-es évek elején elôszôr jôtt
vissza Párizsból, elszánt volt és
fanatikus. E tulajdonságot mögött ott munkálkodott
a rá jellemzô belsô hajtóerô,
amely természetes kapcsolatra talált a kortárs
mûvészet szüntelen megújulási
kényszerével. Mint alkotó, ezt az attitûdöt
mûveiben könnyen érvényesíthette,
de nem úgy az alkotások közönség
elé juttatásában. Magyarországon a
kortárs mûvészeti intézmények
rendszere, különösen a fotográfiáé,
még a rendszerváltást követô években
is alig változott. Ezt felismerve, 1994. szeptemberében
Detvay tanácsára felesége, HANGYÁL
Judit, létrehozza az ország elsô, korszerû
elvek alapján mûködô fotográfus
mûvésztársaságát és magángyûjteményét,
a Bolt Fotógalériát. A galéria fennállásának
öt éve alatt azokat a fotográfusokat és
fotográfus képzômûvészeket gyûjtötte
össze, akik a fényképezés és
a képzômûvészet határterületén
alkotnak. Ezek az alkotók többnyire olyan mûveket
hoznak létre, amik a fotográfia és a képzômûvészet
tradicionális képfelfogását új
tapasztalati és logikai alapokra helyezik. A most Önök
elé kerülô gyüjtemény a Bolt Fotógaléria
mûvészi elképzeléseit és gyûjtési
, menedzselési stratégiáját reprezentálja.
Az esztétikai minôségen túl minden
alkotás a korszerû látványteremtés
valamely egyéni megoldását képviseli,
akár az archaikus, akár a legkorszerûbb fotómûveletek
segitségével született. A látványteremtés
kortársmûvészeti felfogása a digitális
és polaroid eljárások mellett a hagyományos,
történeti fotótechnikát, a camera obscurát,
a legelsô installállási mûvelettôl
a végleges képformáig elgondoltak és
megtervezettek. Ma a kép készitésének
folyamata került az alkotói érdeklôdés
középpontjába, mig vele párhuzamosan
a tartalom, a képtárgy látványkoncepciója
extrém irányt vett. A gyûjtemény ily
módon a kortárs magyar fotográfia technikai
és szenzuális gazdagsága mellett, a fotografikus
gondolkodás 9o-es évekre jellemzô intellektualitását
és fantázia gazdagságát is jól
szemlélteti. A Bolt Fotógaléria 68 kiállitást
sem. Katalógusait rendszeresen küldi a külföldi
társgalériáknak, mûvészeit pedig
számtalan európai és amerikai kiállitáson
mutatta be.
Coda
A mai fotográfiában egyre több a tudatos elem,
mind az esztétikai , technikai feltételek megválasztásában
mind a látványelemek tudatos képzésében.
A rendszerûség, a koncepcionáltság,
a kontextusban gondolkodás, és ennek befolyásolása
egyaránt a fotografálási folyamat része
lett. Egyre több alkotónál figyelhetô
meg ennek felismerése. De a fotográfia rendszerû
mûködéséhez hozzátartozik a képek
és fotográfusok mûvészi presztizsének
és anyagi biztonságának kérdése
is.
leginkább a galériák képviselik. Biztató,
hogy az elmúlt években nem kis mértékben
a Bolt Galériának köszönhetôen -
Magyarországon is körvonalazódott a fotográfia
ezen szerkezete, amelyre alapozva a hazai fotó mind mûvészi
,mind a kereskedelmi nagykorúságát a közeljövôben
elérheti. 1999 május 2 5.

Bolt 99
by Károly Szûcs
Intentions and abilities are the stuff of
personal histories. If these qualities take the form of purposeful
activity, then the actor can be said to shape a segment of collective
time. The personal history of Jenõ Detvay was thus a
private affair until he founded the Bolt Fotogaléria.
In the early 1990s, when he first returned from Paris, he was
filled with determination, even fanaticism. At work behind these
qualities was a drive that could be said to define his character,
and that found a natural correlation with contemporary arts
perpetual need for self-renewal. As a creator, he could readily
channel this approach through his work, although things were
not so simple when it came to presenting such works to the public.
The running of contemporary art institutions, especially those
specialising in photography, had hardly altered since the change
of political system. In response to this situation, in September
1994 Detvay encouraged his wife, Judit Hangyál, to establish
the Bolt photo gallery, the countrys first photographic
art society and public collection to operate on the basis of
modern principles. During the five years of its existence the
gallery has collected the works of photographers and photographic
fine artists working in the borderline area between photography
and fine art. These are artists whose works can be said to move
the traditional pictorial concepts of photography and fine art
onto new empirical and logical foundations. The current collection
represents Bolt Fotogalérias artistic vision, as
well as its collection and management strategies. Besides its
aesthetic qualities, every work represents one individuals
solution to the creation of modern images, whether based on
archaic, or on the most modern, photographic practices. Besides
the digital and Polaroid processes, contemporary approaches
towards image creation include the innovative use of traditional,
historical photographic technologies, the camera obscura, the
photogram, or saline paper and cyanotypesthe whole past
and present of photo technology. These creations are well conceived
and planned, from the very first experiments in composition
to the final representation. Today, the process of picture creation
is in the focus of creative interest, while the content, the
image concept of the pictorial object, has taken an extreme
direction. Thus alongside the technical and sensual riches of
contemporary Hungarian photography, the Bolt collection provides
a vivid representation of the intellectualism and fantasy that
characterises photographic thinking in the 1990s. The Bolt Fotogaléria
has organised sixty-eight exhibitions in Hungary and has published
fifty-three multilingual catalogues each containing between
fifteen and twenty photographs. The gallery can thus be said,
without bias, to have written itself a place in the history
of Hungarian photography. In addition to its activities in Hungary,
the gallery has not neglected the importance of foreign links
and of an international outlook. It regularly sends its catalogues
to similar profile foreign galleries and has introduced its
artists at countless European and American exhibitions.
CODAWithin contemporary photography there are an increasing
amount of conscious elements, both in terms of the selection
of aesthetic and technical conditions and in the creation of
the visual features themselves. The systematisation of conception,
as well as thinking within a context and influencing that context,
have become integral to the photographic process. An increasing
number of artists are now applying such principles.
However, the systematisation of photography involves the question
of the artistic prestige and material security of both photographs
and photographers. This dimension, the meeting point between
art, money and value judgement, finds its most important expression
in the work of the galleries. It is encouraging to note that
in recent yearslargely due to the work of the Bolt gallerythis
structure has clearly emerged in Hungary as well. As a result,
domestic photography is likely to be able to achieve both its
artistic and its commercial maturity in the near future.

Bolt 99
