In the last few years, national cultural self-representations have been of
common occurrence and have therefore ceased to be interesting. The
relations between Austria and Hungary have always been entirely different
than that between Hungary and Sweden. (The Austrians, as well as the
Hungarians, have many commonplace and cliché preconceptions about each
other.)
The purpose of the exhibition is both artistic and research-oriented.
It will attempt to introduce Austrian and Hungarian art and culture so as to
reveal the hidden (unrecognised) links of their common past and will try to
challenge(and replace) the existing clichés concerning the cultures of the two
nations - addressing the gap
between the traditional conceptions of the two cultures. To prove that nations
have a significant talent for creating formal and abstract methods of
interpretation, it is necessary to go beyond the classical borders of art. In
addition to display the results of the traditional and formal arts, the sciences
of logic and mathematics should also be presented.
The connections between art and science that have made a great impact on
the cultural development of Austria and Hungary will be shown within groups
and sections.
