Nokia Cellular Data Suite Interface

All informations You will find here are result of my own experimentation or are found somewhere on Internet. It is not official scheme and informations and if You will decide to realize it, YOU WILL DO THIS OF YOUR OWN RISK and if You will destroy something, I DON'T TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY.

And one more advice - if You don't understand to this or You are not sure with something, better don't do it and leave it to someone experienced in. Ports of all phones are very easy to damage !!!

Interface (cable) is for N8110i, N8110, N6110, N5110 and N3110 phones. If it works with N2110 I don't know. It is only RS232/TTL convertor, all functions (like modem) are realized by software.

N8110i, N8110 and N3110 phones works with 5V technology, N6110 and N5110 phones with 3V technology. In this case, there are little differences in wiring and interfaces ARE NOT compatible - WARNING !!! If You will use 5V interface for N6110, You will almost destroy it.

Here is description of individual interface wiring and all informations about it I know.

Nokia 6110 and 5110
Nokia 8110i, 8110 and 3110

This interface is checked with Nokia Cellular Data Suite v1.0 (v1.0a, v1.0c), v1.2 (v1.2a) and v2.0 software. Theoreticaly it may work with Nokia CellularWare too (here maybe with N2110?).

The biggest problem is buying phone connector - it is practically impossible, so it is necessary to buy some phone accessory like external antenna or light hands-free and cut connector from it. But be sure the connector contains all pins - some accessory has connector only with used pins.

You can build this interface into Cannon 25 connector at ease. But because of this interface may be used with notebooks they doesn't have 25 pins COM port and if You have only one COM port, it is almost 9 pins COM, is design of printed wiring for Cannon DB 9 female connector. This connector is to small to build this interface into it (if You use SMD components You can build it into 9 pins connector, but it is much more work), but You can "seal it up" with epoxy and the resultant "bubble" is not much bigger than original connector cover. (see pic).

If You don't want to do 2-sided printed wiring, is published design of 1-sided, so  there is no connector connected to this wiring and "bubble" will be in the centre of the cable (see pic.).

Pin numbering is only for 9 pins COM and DOESN'T MATCH to 25 pins COM port numbers.

This wiring should work with Siemens S10 and Ericcson phones (with appropriate software). Then is necessary to adapt voltage settings on the phone side and naturally pin numbers on phone connector.

All pictures are done by CorelDRAW 8 (design of printed wiring is in 1:1 scale) and if You want them, are here. These pages (packed with WinZip) are all available here.

You can look through Nokia Cellular Data Suite software if You download its demo version.
